West Ham starlet Joe Powell is making a name for himself on loan at Northampton Town and his performance on Tuesday night was memorable.

Moments after coming on, the young Hammers unleashed a wonder strike into the top corner to settle a narrow League Two encounter.

It was the young midfielder’s second goal since joining Northampton on loan in January and it is a moment he will never forget.

Northampton boss Keith Curle rolled the dice late into the game against Newport County, throwing Powell into the mix.

And the 20-year-old came up with the winning moment. Newport half-cleared a long throw-in and it fell to the West Ham loanee outside the box.

Powell rocked back and using his favoured left foot, he powerfully volleyed in off the crossbar.

Even former Hammers midfielder Jack Collison was left in shock, tweeting: “Forget about Ronaldo’s heroics tonight. Only on the pitch two minutes and Joe Powell pops up with the winner. Well done Powelly.”

Here are some tweets from West Ham fans who were awestruck by Powell’s wonder strike.
