West Ham United are allegedly set to offer talented young right-back Ben Johnson a ‘major new contract’ in the summer.
That’s according to club insiders Claret and Hugh who claim that contract talks have been shelved until the end of the season after the club activated their two-year extension option on the youngster’s deal.
Ben Johnson has really impressed for West Ham so far this season.
So much so that the West Ham owners tried to tie the 22-year-old down to a new six-year contract at the London Stadium but had to settle for activating a two-year extension option after the right-back wasn’t happy with the terms on offer from the club (The Evening Standard).
Johnson seems to have made the right-back spot his own this season with Vladimir Coufal having struggled with injuries.
And as such, tying him down to a new long-term deal at the end of this season will be absolutely vital for the Hammers.
Insider makes new Ben Johnson contract claim
Claret and Hugh reckon that West Ham will offer the 22-year-old a ‘major new contract’ in the summer.
The club insiders claim that Johnson will be offered a new five-year deal at the end of the current campaign.
Hopefully we manage to get this one wrapped up before the start of the new season.
Johnson could be our number one right-back for at least the next decade.
The 22-year-old is quick, strong, possesses exceptional technique and is full of energy, athleticism and dynamism.
We truly believe that he is head and shoulders above Vladimir Coufal already and should be playing week in, week out.
Johnson gets better and better with every week that passes. If we’re being harsh though, he does need to improve upon his delivery into the box if he is to become an elite full-back. That will surely come with more hard work and experience though.
And if we manage to sign Ben Johnson up to a new five-year contract in the summer, it will be great news for everyone involved with the club.
