West Ham United have been linked with a new move for the ‘Chilean pitbull’ Gary Medel and some fans are livid.

According to fellow Hammers website Claret & Hugh director of football Mario Husillos is keen on renewing interest in the 31-year-old.

Sky Sports reported that West Ham wanted the Besiktas midfield enforcer in January. The move did not happen as Samir Nasri proved to be the only arrival.

Pellegrini’s January regret

Indeed manager Manuel Pellegrini even admitted he regretted the club’s failure to land his fellow countryman Medel, (Sky Sports).

Now C&H claim Husillos and Pellegrini are ‘determined’ to sign a player who can cover for Declan Rice and see Medel as the answer.

The report claims West Ham could get the former Cardiff City and Inter Milan player for £4million.

But many West Ham fans feel that is £4million too much.

Hammers fans may remember Medel from Cardiff’s last foray into the Premier League.

West Ham fans have faced Medel before

City in the Premier League in 2013.

The Welsh side paid a club record £11m to Sevilla for Medel back then. But the Bluebirds sold him to Inter Milan for £10m the following year after relegation to the Championship.

Supporters have been reacting to the rumours on Twitter.

And the majority feel it is a step in the wrong direction. They would prefer the club to build a squad of young, hungry players to take them forward.

Hammers fans livid over Rice back-up plan

Medel is the wrong side of 30. But on the flip side as a back-up for Rice he does boast vast experience.

He has won 118 caps for Chile and appeared at the 2014 World Cup after scoring the goal that assured qualification.

Here a selection of responses to the reports on Twitter.

‘Spurs in CL final and now I’m seeing Medel to West Ham’
