West Ham have been hit with an FA charge after the controversial Jarrod Bowen incident in the draw with Southampton.

Hammers boss David Moyes was incandescent with what he witnessed during West Ham’s 1-1 draw at Southampton at the weekend.

West Ham fans shared the frustration of their manager and then some.

Referee Peter Bankes and VAR official Simon Hooper were in charge of proceedings at St Mary’s. And West Ham felt seriously wronged on three counts.

Two involved Southampton’s goal which put them 1-0 up and the other was the denial of a blatant penalty for a foul on Tomas Soucek.

Kyle Walker-Peters had his foot well over the touchline when taking the throw which led to Southampton’s goal.

But ref Bankes actually blocked Jarrod Bowen from getting to the ball after a mishit clearance from Soucek.

West Ham ace Bowen would comfortably have got to the ball first but was blocked by the official and Romain Perraud hit a shot which deflected off Ben Johnson and past Lukasz Fabianski.

It was expected that the goal would be ruled out on at least one of the counts. But Bankes and Hooper adjudged the goal should stand much to the fury of Moyes and West Ham’s players on the pitch.

West Ham’s stars argued their point to the official on the day.

Now West Ham have been hit with an FA charge after the controversial Bowen incident in the draw with Southampton.

In a Regulation and Discipline update, the FA has announced that the Hammers have been charged with a breach of the rules regarding ensuring players conduct themselves in an orderly fashion.

“West Ham United FC have been charged with a breach of FA Rule E20.1 following their Premier League fixture against Southampton FC on Sunday 16 October 2022,” the FA states.

“It’s alleged that the club failed to ensure that their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion during the 20th minute of the fixture. West Ham United FC have until Monday 24 October 2022 to provide a response.”

West Ham fans are understandably furious with the FA charge after their side were so clearly wronged in the game.

Although ex ref Dermot Gallagher begged to differ when assessing the incident this week.
