There is no love lost between West Ham United fans and John Terry but they are in agreement over one thing.

Former England and Chelsea captain Terry recently retired from football after starting his career as a teenager in the youth setup at West Ham.

Terry started out with famous East End feeder club Senrab before joining West Ham’s Academy setup under legendary youth director Tony Carr.

West Ham and Terry beef explained

The centre back seemed to be at the perfect place having come from a family of West Ham fans including dad Ted and brother Paul.

Indeed Terry’s dad once told now defunct tabloid The News of the World that it was his dream to see his son captain the Hammers.

Terry was often linked with a return to his first professional club in recent years. But he opted for the claret and blue of Aston Villa instead when his time at Chelsea came to an end.

The former England man had a volatile relationship with Hammers fans over the years.

But he very much gave as much stick back to the West Ham faithful as he received.

Hate figure’s Rice prediction spot on

But the Hammers hate figure has been proved right over star Declan Rice. His prediction from August 2017 is certainly one which West Ham fans won’t argue with.

Posting on social media having met with Rice for a meal, Terry said: “Great catching up with Declan today. This boy will be a player.”

Credit where it is due

That he is John, that he is.

Rice has proved Terry right with his imperious displays for the Hammers.

His performances – 50 of them already in the Premier League at just 19 – since Terry’s prediction have this week earned the West Ham hero a bumper new deal until 2024.

All may not be forgiven but Terry clearly knows a player when he sees one.
