Diafra Sakho left West Ham for Rennes in January 2018, but some Hammers fans want him back.

The 30-year-old has struggled with the Ligue 1 outfit, scoring just three goals in 16 outings.

Sakho spent last season on loan in Turkey with Bursaspor.

And the 13-capped Senegal international has now been released by Rennes. The French club made the following statement:

“Stade Rennais FC and Diafra Sakho have terminated the contract which bound them until June 2020. The club thanks Diafra for its participation and its unfailing professional and human commitment and wishes it the best in its future projects.”

Sakho was somewhat of a cult hero at West Ham. He always gave his all and the club’s fans really warmed to him.

The striker scored 24 goals in 71 appearances for the Hammers, after joining from Metz for around £4.5 million in 2014 (Goal).

The 30-year-old spent nearly four years in east London before being moved on to Rennes for around £9 million (The Daily Mail).

West Ham are currently very short in the attacking department. There is too much emphasis one Sebastien Haller to produce the goods on a consistent basis. The Frenchman desperately needs more competition, as Albian Ajeti is clearly not at the level required.

So could the Hammers really bring back Sakho on a free transfer?

Some West Ham fans think it would be a good idea…
