West Ham are ready to pay a £5 million loan fee for Arsenal centre-back Rob Holding, according to a report from the Sun. And some Hammers fans have taken to Twitter in reaction to the speculation.

It is clear for everyone to see that David Moyes must bolster his centre-back options at the London Stadium before the transfer window closes.

Now, Arsenal ace Holding would be a wise addition for West Ham.

The 24-year-old is an old school defender. He is strong in the air and has a no nonsense approach to the game.

The former Bolton man played only eight Premier League games for the Gunners last season. In those outings, the centre-back averaged 5.4 clearances and 0.8 blocks per game. He also won an average of two aerial duals per game (Who Scored).

Holding would certainly add some stability to our back-line.

But a £5 million loan deal seems to make no sense whatsoever.

It would be a case of us papering over the cracks for one season, only to face the same issues next year, only with £5 million less to spend.

With Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta willing to sanction his exit from the Emirates on loan (Metro), it seems as though a temporary move could be our only option, however.

And some West Ham fans don’t seem to think that signing Holding on loan is a good idea…
