The Hammers have had some really tough opening day fixtures in previous years.

Their last six opening day fixtures have come against Manchester City, Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham. And in those games, the east London outfit have taken just three points.

So next month’s opening day clash with Newcastle will be a welcome relief for West Ham.

There are some really tough games to follow for the Hammers, however, with games against Arsenal away, Wolves at home, Leicester away and Tottenham away.

David Moyes will be desperate for his side to get off to a flying start this season. The Scot will certainly not want to oversee yet another relegation battle at the London Stadium.

West Ham have players well capable of pushing on for a top half finish next season.

Let’s just hope that the Hammers board back Moyes in the transfer market this summer. The 57-year-old needs to bring in at least two defenders and a centre-forward.

If he manages to sell the likes of Felipe Anderson and Manuel Lanzini, the addition of an attack-minded midfielder would no go a miss either.

Whatever happens in the transfer market, let’s just hope that we are in for a better season this time around. Three points on the opening day against Newcastle would be a great way to start.
