Roberto started for the first time in the league as West Ham lost to Crystal Palace. The Eagles ruined West Ham’s Saturday afternoon as Jordan Ayew scored a late winner at The London Stadium.

With Lukasz Fabianski injured, West Ham were forced to play Roberto between the sticks. The Spaniard joined in the summer to replace Adrian but was considered to be a back-up option.

After two games in the EFL Cup – including one where he conceded four against Oxford United – Roberto came off the bench against Bournemouth. West Ham fans were very worried about Roberto before the Crystal Palace game.

But 33-year-old could not do anything about either of Palace’s goals. Patrick van Aanholt scored the visitors’ equaliser from the penalty spot after a Rice handball. And Ayew netted the winner from close-range with Roberto left exposed.

West Ham fans were watching Roberto closely in yesterday’s game after the pre-game nerves. Here are some tweets from Hammers fans discussing Roberto’s full debut in the league. There were some mixed opinions after the match.
