Pablo Fornals is up and running for West Ham. The summer recruit started against Newport County in the EFL Cup and scored the Hammers’ second goal in the 2-0 win at Rodney Parade.
It was a potential banana-skin fixture for West Ham but it was a professional performance in the end. West Ham ground out a clean sheet and scored twice to progress to the Third Round.
Jack Wilshere opened the scoring and Fornals got off the mark in claret and blue. The 23-year-old, who joined from Villarreal in the summer, scored his first goal in a competitive game.
He latched onto a mistake at the back by the Exiles and punished the League Two outfit. Fornals will now be hoping to carry this form into the league. The Spaniard is still getting up to speed with English football but the goal would have boosted his confidence.
