West Ham United fans have rallied around in support of Lucas Perez after he denied refusing to warm up.
Perez has slammed ‘false information’ claiming that he refused to warm up in the win over Everton (Read full story here).
West Ham ran out 3-1 winners at Goodison Park.
It was the club’s first Premier League points of the season under Manuel Pellegrini.
Victory lifted the Hammers off the foot of the table.
West Ham turned in their best performance of the season so far.
A positive day tarnished?
Andriy Yarmolenko netted a brace and Marko Arnautovic secured all three points with a fine third.
It was a real squad effort too as emphasised by the impact of sub Michail Antonio.
He did his bit to hold the ball up and kill the game off when introduced as a late substitute.
But originally it should have been former Arsenal striker Lucas Perez on the pitch, according to Pellegrini (Sky Sports).
Reporters on Sky Sports during the live game speculated Perez had refused to warm up.
Perez apologises, fans hit out… at West Ham-bashing media
That led to a backlash from supporters and criticism from a range of pundits and ex Hammers.
Some supporters are sceptical whether Perez is completely innocent in the whole affair.
But fans have rallied around the forward and taken aim at the media for ‘West Ham bashing’.
Here is a selection of some of tweets in response to Perez’s statement:

No it’s good he did. Would’ve been abused for no reason; maybe by his own fans who would’ve bought the BS the media fed them.

@SkySportsPL how about doing honourable thing and putting this out there as was your commentary team that were responsible for the inaccurate reports.

Well explained Lucas. If you can come on and score the winner against Chelsea before doing a “sulking” celebration that’d be amazing.

Cool. As long as that cleared up. I’ll admit when the Sky commentator said you had refused to warm up I should’ve known it was again the media’s plot to dampen what had been a great day for West Ham. #COYI ⚒⚒⚒
