West Ham took on Southampton at the London Stadium today, and they racked up what could turn out to be a pivotal three points.
The Hammers put in a really solid performance, and everyone to a man worked hard to ensure their side won the game.
One player in particular drew praise from the West Ham fans – Pablo Fornals.
The Spaniard joined the Hammers from Villarreal in the summer of 2019 for around £24 million (BBC).
Fornals was arguably West Ham’s best player during the final two months of Manuel Pellegrini’s tenure at the London Stadium.
He has struggled for game-time under David Moyes, however.
And West Ham fans have been baffled by the Scot’s refusal to start the 24-year-old week-in, week-out.
Fornals, who earns £60,000 per week according to Football Insider, has racked up four goals and five assists in 30 games for the Hammers this season (Who Scored) – not a bad return considering it has been his first experience of English football.
The former Villarreal man played a beautiful, defence-splitting pass to set up Jarrod Bowen for West Ham’s opener today. His lofted ball into Michail Antonio for the Hammers’ third goal was something to behold too.
Not only did he make a real difference in the final third, but he worked his socks off too.
And some West Ham fans took to Twitter to praise the Spaniard for his performance today…
