West Ham fans livid with Manuel Pellegrini's decision to play Pablo Zabaleta ahead of Ryan Fredericks

Manuel Pellegrini decided to start Pablo Zabaleta ahead of Ryan Fredericks.

West Ham fans have been left dumbfounded by this decision. Newcastle United’s sole threat was pace on the counter-attack and Pellegrini played right into Steve Bruce’s hands.

In Allan Saint-Maximin and Miguel Almiron, Newcastle have two pacey wingers who like to cause problems on the break. They both work around Joelinton – the big man up top.

It seemed a logical decision to bring Fredericks back into the starting line-up. The former Fulham right-back is one of the quickest players in the league and he could have matched Saint-Maximin on the day.

But instead, Zabaleta struggled against the rapid Frenchman. Saint-Maximin produced an exhibition of speed and trickery and Zabaleta had no answer. This was a strange decision from Pellegrini.

The Hammers boss changed his line-up last week, taking Fredericks out and putting Zabaleta in. But the 27-year-old was not really the problem for West Ham. And Zabaleta was not the solution.

West Ham fans took to Twitter to discuss this decision. Here are some of the best tweets.
