The West Ham players and fans will be absolutely ecstatic after tonight’s win over Chelsea at the London Stadium. And Some Hammers fans were very happy with the performance of Angelo Ogbonna.

The east London outfit were unfortunate not to take the lead on the 33 minute mark when Tomas Soucek’s goal was ruled out. Some would say the decision was unfair. Others may say it was farcical.

And to make matters worse, Chelsea went up the other end just a few minutes later, won a penalty, and Willian duly scored from the spot.

David Moyes’ side did bounce back, however. And it was that man Soucek again. The Czech ace rose high to head home from a Jarrod Bowen corner deep into first-half stoppage time.

They then took the lead early on in the second-half with Michail Antonio striking after 51 minutes.

Chelsea struck back with around 20 minutes remaining, however, with Willian getting his second goal of the game.

But Andriy Yarmolenko won the game late on for the home side with a brilliantly taken goal.

The Hammers are still in trouble, however. They are currently hovering just outside the relegation zone, three points clear of 18th placed Aston Villa.

This was actually one of West Ham’s better displays of late, although it was far from great.

Angelo Ogbonna, who earns £70k-a-week (Spotrac) was one of the stand-out performers. The Italian leads by example. And he was a continual vocal presence at the back for his side.

The 32-year-old is a leading candidate to win the Hammer of the Year award this season. In fact, he only has Declan Rice as any kind of competition.

If West Ham are to stay up this season, they will need the Italian to be at his very best for the remaining six games.

Some Hammers fans absolutely raved about Ogbonna’s commanding display tonight…
