West Ham could strike a big blow to Wolves by signing £13m ace with 'extra touch of class'

According to a report from Calcio Mercato, West Ham have initiated contact with Gremio regarding a summer swoop for Pepe. Wolves allegedly want to sign the Brazilian as well.

Hammers fans have had to endure a shocking transfer window thus far. Wolves, meanwhile, have already strengthened significantly, signing Marcal and Fabio Silva.

There is still plenty of time for West Ham to act, however.

And we have a great chance to make a real statement by beating Wolves to the signing of Gremio ace Pepe.

Stats

The 23-year-old was in fine form for Gremio last season. He racked up nine goals and three assists in 37 appearances (Transfermarkt).

Pepe is an exceptionally talented footballer and has skill and pace in abundance. Whilst signing a new winger shouldn’t be David Moyes’s priority, the Gremio ace would be a welcome addition at the London Stadium.

Especially considering Grady Diangana’s recent exit. With Nuno Espirito Santo allegedly keen to bring the 23-year-old South American to Molineux, however, West Ham will have their work cut-out.

It’s time for the owners to show some genuine ambition though. We are already being left behind by the likes of Aston Villa, Newcastle, Sheffield United and Wolves.

Unless Moyes brings some quality signings into the club soon we could be in for a tough season ahead.

And if the Scot manages to sign one or two defenders and a centre-forward, David Sullivan and David Gold need to back him in the market even further still by going all out for Gremio star Pepe.

Signing the diminutive winger would be a real coup for the Hammers. And at the same time, it would strike a blow to Wolves.

Gremio vice president Paulo Luz told DT Next in April:

“Pepe is a young, talented player who has that extra touch of class. He is fast and is a great finisher.”

The Brazilian winger could be available for just £13 million this summer (Calcio Mercato).

Whether the West Ham owners will be prepared to make it happen, however, remains to be seen.
