West Ham are reportedly considering appointing Bruno Genesio as their next manager, according to reports emerging from France.
French media outlet RMC Sport claims that Genesio’s future at Lyon is in doubt and he could be departing soon. That comes soon after they bowed out of the Coupe de France.
West Ham and Newcastle have apparently made contact with Genesio’s agent Pini Zahavi and could appoint him this summer.
Manuel Pellegrini at West Ham
It would be a shock if West Ham parted ways with Manuel Pellegrini. Although he has not set the world alight, he has certainly overseen major improvements at West Ham.
With six games left to play, West Ham are already effectively safe in 11th place with 42 points. This time last season, the Hammers were in deep relegation trouble under Moyes.
West Ham also play a more exciting brand of football (sometimes) under Pellegrini and he seems to be invested in his long-term project in East London.
But perhaps the West Ham owners are not content with his results given the £100m of spending that was done last summer.
Bruno Genesio: his managerial credentials
Genesio’s only ever managerial job has been at Lyon. The Frenchman took over in December 2015 and has been in charge ever since.
The Ligue 1 club are currently third in the French top-flight but their Coupe de France exit was unexpected and disappointing.
With a win rate of over 50 per cent at Lyon, he could be an interesting (if not unnecessary) appointment for West Ham to consider.
