West Ham United co-owner David Gold enjoys occasionally interacting with fans on social media.
And the born and bred Hammer has been at it again this week.
Gold and fellow co-owner David Sullivan have made a concerted effort to keep a lower profile in the last year.
Owners have maintained lower profile
The pair’s willingness to discuss sensitive club matters in the public domain was a major bone of contention for fans who protested against the owners last year.
And they have stuck to their word in the most part much to the delight of fans.
Someone who could do with upping his profile, is Jack Wilshere.
Tough debut season for Wilshere
The midfielder featured just eight times in his first season after signing on a free transfer for Arsenal.
Many fans felt signing Wilshere was a mistake given his poor injury record throughout his career.
According to Spotrac, West Ham pay the ex Gunner £100,000 per week.
He looked in superb shape and form when he eventually returned to the team at the tail end of the season.
But some supporters wonder whether he was worth the risk having picked up over 5million in wages for just over 400 minutes on the pitch.
‘Time will tell’
One such fan put that to Gold on Twitter.
And the businessman admitted himself that the jury is still out on the signing of Wilshere.
“Time will tell,” Gold said on Twitter when it was put to him that Wilshere is a waste of money.
Crucially, though, Gold stopped short of writing Wilshere off.
Given he, like Gold, is a boyhood Hammer it would be great for all concerned if he can do the business for the club he grew up supporting.
In an effort to do just that Wilshere says he will be working throughout the summer to get himself in peak physical condition to play a big part in the next campaign (whufc.com).
