West Ham ace Jack Wilshere suggested that he didn’t feel part of the team when he was out injured last season.

The 27-year-old joined the Hammers from Arsenal on a free transfer in the summer of 2018. His first season in east London was disrupted by injuries, however.

Wilshere made just eight appearances for West Ham last season. He has already started three of the Hammers’ four games this term, however.

And after an impressive pre-season, many are tipping the 34-capped England international to enjoy a successful campaign.

On his day, Wilshere is a truly top-class midfielder, and he has the ability to make a huge difference for West Ham.

Whether he can avoid any kind of serious injury this season, however, remains to be seen.

The former Arsenal man spoke to the Daily Mail, and suggested that he found it really hard during his debut season with the Hammers:

I’m improving. I’ve played some games, got some minutes and I feel like I can really push on now. It’s difficult when you come to a new club. You want to have a period of time in the team. It was frustrating and I didn’t feel I was part of the team. It was important for me to have a good pre-season. To stay around the boys and be training and improving every day.”

Wilshere will be delighted to be fully fit and in contention to start every week.

He must find more consistency in his performances, however.

The 27-year-old showcased his class during Tuesday’s win over Newport County, but he now needs to transfer that form into the Premier League.

Wilshere could be an important player for West Ham this season, and he will be desperate to prove that he still has what it takes to make a difference at the very highest level.
