Wantaway Harrison Ashby has sent a message to ex West Ham teammate Manny Longelo after he hit the headlines.

With Aaron Cresswell approaching the swansong of his career and Arthur Masuaku clearly having no future at West Ham, many had high hopes for exciting young left-back Longelo.

David Moyes clearly liked what he saw from the Hammers academy graduate, regularly including him in first team squads over the last couple of seasons.

But in the summer West Ham made something of a surprise decision to loan the marauding left-back out to Championship side Birmingham City while spending £13.5m to sign 28-year-old Emerson.

At right-back a similar story is unfolding with Ashby reportedly being denied a summer move to Newcastle having refused to sign a new deal due to disillusionment over a lack of opportunities at West Ham.

That move, we are being told, will be revisited in January.

The two West Ham academy teammates seemed the ideal young modern full-backs West Ham needed in the first team. But it seems both their futures may be away from the Hammers.

Now wantaway Ashby has sent a message to ex West Ham teammate Longelo after he made headlines on Friday night.

Longelo fired a reminder of his ability to West Ham by scoring a lovely goal in Birmingham’s 2-0 win over QPR.

Longelo showed his right foot can be just as good as his left when he cut inside on the edge of the box and guided a fine finish into the bottom corner.

Ashby, who is reportedly set to be sold to Newcastle in January given his refusal to sign a new deal, spoke of his pride at seeing Longelo doing well on loan.

“What a guy Manny Longelo,” Ashby said on Twitter.

“Proud of you my son.”

Many fans took to the posts to state that Ashby were the future fullbacks for West Ham.

But that seems highly unlikely indeed, particularly in Ashby’s case unless he has a change of heart over the new Hammers contract.
