It says something about West Ham United’s dismal 2019 so far that the big talking point around the club is a new carpet.
West Ham have won just four games in the Premier League since the turn of the year.
It has left Manuel Pellegrini’s side in 11th place in the table with nothing but pride left to play for.

Season over so all eyes turn to home improvements
All eyes instead are on the latest attempt to make the London Stadium feel more like home.
After a battle with London Stadium operators E20, West Ham finally got their wish to replace the green pitch surround with a claret one.
Following a lengthy delay, the new surface is now being installed in time for Saturday’s home game against Leicester City.
The club announced that the installation had commenced at the weekend (whufc.com).

Video footage shows carpet being installed
It was accompanied by a computer generated image of how the carpet will look once complete.
But now a video has emerged on Twitter showing the West Ham-ification of the ground taking place.
A West Ham fan posted video of the carpet being installed on Twitter saying: “Some footage of the new claret carpet being installed.”
The subject of the carpet has divided opinion among fans.

Verdict awaits as fans divided
Much has been made of the cost, the length of time it has taken to get it sorted and whether it will actually make any difference.
For some supporters the more claret the better. Many feel it will help the players with sightlines during matches. Others say it is merely papering over the cracks in a stadium not made for football.
The verdict awaits on Saturday when the Foxes come to East London.
