The 30-year-old has been incredibly important to the Hammers since Premier League resumed in June.
Antonio has scored 12 goals in his last 17 Premier League games for West Ham. And he is absolutely vital to the manner in which David Moyes sets up his side.
The former Nottingham Forest ace was a real handful again today. He opened the scoring for the Hammers against Manchester City at the London Stadium.
But unfortunately for the Hammers, the 30-year-old had to be taken off early on in the second-half because of a hamstring complaint.
Let’s just hope that it’s nothing serious.
When speaking on BT Sport at half-time, Joe Cole raved about Antonio, describing the powerful West Ham ace as ‘incredible:
“It’s outstanding. He turns and gets his body shape right. And then this…unbelievable. I haven’t got words to describe it. The technique to reverse it across his body…outstanding.”
Cole is spot on. It really was a truly spectacular goal from Antonio.
The 30-year-old has proven recently that he has a lot more about him than just sheer brawn. And if West Ham are to achieve any kind of success this season, we will need the former Forest man to stay injury free and be on top form from now until May.
Today’s goal was evidence of Antonio’s quality. Whether his body is durable enough to last an entire campaign, however, remains to be seen.
