Trevor Sinclair urged West Ham to sign Arsenal defender Rob Holding, when speaking on the West Ham Way podcast (Wednesday September 16th). He also advised David Moyes to give Sead Kolasinac a miss.
In other news…Report: West Ham want to sign £75k-a-week Italian left-back from London rivals
Hammers boss Moyes really needs to bolster his central defensive and left-back ranks at the London Stadium this summer.
And according to a report from the Sun, Arsenal centre-back Rob Holding is a target for West Ham.
The Athletic’s David Ornstein claimed earlier this week that Kolasinac is also on the Hammers’ radar.
West Ham are allegedly ready to pay a £5 million loan fee to bring Holding, 24, to east London.
Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is reportedly prepared to let Holding leave the Emirates on loan this summer (Metro).
And Trevor Sinclair has urged David Moyes to get a deal for Arsenal ace Holding over the line before the end of the transfer window, whilst stating that he’s not a big fan of Kolasinac, when speaking on the West Ham Way podcast (Wednesday September 16th):
“I’m not too keen on Kolasinac. I’d love to see us sign Rob Holding, but I don’t think he’s keen to come.”
Holding would be a very useful addition for West Ham. It would surely make more sense to sign the former Bolton man permanently, however, rather than laying out £5 million to sign him on loan.
That would leave us in the same boat next summer, only with less money at our disposal.
Stats
The 24-year-old played only eight Premier League games for the Gunners last season. In those outings, the centre-back averaged 5.4 clearances and 0.8 blocks per game. He also won an average of two aerial duals per game (Who Scored).
Holding is an old school defender. He is strong in the air and has a no nonsense approach to the game.
He would undoubtedly strengthen our backline, but whether or not Moyes manages to make it happen remains to be seen.
As far as Kolasinac goes, he may not be the best defender in the world. But he would certainly be an upgrade on Aaron Cresswell. So in spite of Sinclair’s opinion, we would still take the Bosnian being signed this summer.
