Manu joined the Hammers on a permanent deal from Al-Jazira in the summer of 2016 for around £9 million (Daily Mail) having impressed during a loan spell in East London the season before.

The 28-year-old instantly endeared himself to the West Ham fans.

His form fell off the face of a cliff, however, after he suffered a serious ACL injury during the build up to the 2018 World Cup.

West Ham ace Manuel Lanzini praised to the hilt

The Argentinian ace’s time at the London Stadium seemed to be coming to an end.

El Intransigente linked Manu with a return to River Plate.

Lanzini put in a top class performance away at Burnley in a deeper role, however. And he has surely now proved that he still has so much to offer West Ham.

“At Burnley on Monday night I thought that Manuel Lanzini put in a stunning performance. I was really pleased for him after a few difficult months, during which time he’s been trying to get back to the levels we saw him at before he sustained his long-term knee injury. At Turf Moor, we saw a totally different side to Manu’s game after he was asked to play a different role. For me, he excelled in that deeper central midfield position alongside Tomas Soucek, where he gave our defenders a fantastic, alternative option to play the ball out from the back. After being asked by David Moyes to step into that unfamiliar new role – Manu certainly would have impressed his manager with his crucial link-up play.”

Manu will undoubtedly have a key role to play for West Ham between now and the end of the season.

Especially with Declan Rice currently out injured!

Lanzini might just have saved his Hammers career. And if the 28-year-old maintains the kind off form he showed on Monday night, he will be a crucial player for West Ham for quite some time to come.
