West Ham United are said to be closing in on the signing of £24million Spanish midfielder Pablo Fornals.

According to the likes of Sky Sports 23-year-old Fornals will join West Ham from Villareal ‘imminently’.

Should the Hammers complete the signing it will be Manuel Pellegrini’s first outfield capture of the summer.

Excitement builds over ‘imminent’ arrival

There has been much excitement about West Ham’s new arrival.

But some supporters are concerned by statistics which show Fornals scored just five goals and provided three assists in all competitions as Villareal struggled last season.

In the player’s defence he was playing in a struggling side suffering from a lack of investment.

A more considered analysis shows Fornals’s performances during the 2017/18 season helped lead Villareal to a top five finish in La Liga.

As if that was not enough, a video circulating on Twitter of Fornals producing some outrageous skill has some West Ham fans salivating.

The video shows Fornals being ushered to the corner flag by a defender with seemingly nowhere to go.

But he produces a box of tricks to beat the defender all ends up and emerges with the ball in the box.

The video sparked a wave of comments from West Ham fans, mostly brimming with excitement.

Although some of the messages did point out Fornals’s final ball was lacking.
