Former West Ham defender Fabio Daprela has told the Swiss media that Albian Ajeti will be a hit with the Hammers. In an interview with Blick, Daprela predicted that “the fans will love him” because of his commitment and passion on the pitch.
Daprela – who played eight times for West Ham between 2009 and 2010 – knows Ajeti well. The former Hammer would have come up against the new Hammer on several occasions in the Swiss Super League when Lugano took on Ajeti’s Basel.
Speaking to Blick, Daprela said: “What counts is the militant attitude that players are torn apart on the pitch. The fans will love him. Because he is a type of player who does not avoid a duel that tears himself apart for the jersey that lives off his physique.“
What can West Ham expect from Albian Ajeti?
If Daprela’s glowing reference is anything to go by, West Ham have got themselves a workhorse up front. Ajeti will be hoping to impress when he gets minutes as he aims to compete with Sebastian Haller and Javier Hernandez.
Ajeti also has a prolific goalscoring record in Switzerland. With 43 goals and 21 assists in 96 games for Basel (including two goals and two assists in three games this season), the 22-year-old is a constant threat.
He is young and apparently eager to improve and develop his game. Moving to England will be a challenge for the Swiss striker but he has the ability to adapt quickly and become a hit. West Ham fans will be hoping that Ajeti can be more successful than Daprela in East London.
