The tweet backfired on Collymore, however…badly.

In fairness, Rice was turned inside out by Saint-Maximin before the lively Magpies winger set up Callum Wilson to score the host’s opener.

It was so early in the game, however. And Rice bounced back in typical style.

Stan Collymore took to Twitter to mock the 22-year-old West Ham man after Wilson scored:

The 22-year-old was quite simply sensational for West Ham after his early slip-up. He drove David Moyes’s team on and played a huge role in our 4-2 win.

Rice got his own back on Saint-Maximin, dispossessing the Newcastle attacker on the halfway line before driving forward and initiating the build-up that led to one of the Hammers’ second-half goals.

Rice proved a lot of people wrong yesterday after Saint-Maximin got the better of him early doors.
