Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola heaped praise on West Ham youngster Declan Rice after yesterday’s game.

West Ham were beaten 4-0 by Manchester City but Rice covered himself in glory with another fine personal performance.

That did not escape the glances of Guardiola, who was impressed by the 19-year-old.

In his post-match press conference, as reported by Football.London, Guardiola said: “Declan Rice is an excellent young player and he will be a top English player for many years to come.”

Considering that Man City are looking for a long-term Fernandinho replacement in holding midfield, Guardiola’s comments have sparked speculation from West Ham fans that Rice could join the champions.

West Ham fans are growing increasingly concerned by Rice’s future as his contract situation remains unsolved.

The club and the teenager are at an impasse over a new deal with Rice currently earning just £3,000-per-week.

The 3-cap Republic of Ireland international is considered to be one of the brightest prospects to come out of the West Ham academy for years and Irons fans will be desperate for him to commit his future to the club.
