Some West Ham United fans have called for Aston Villa star Jack Grealish to be banned.

When West Ham thumped Norwich City 4-0 on Saturday lunchtime many proclaimed they were all but safe from the threat of relegation.

But wins for Aston Villa and Bournemouth have dragged the Hammers right back into the mix.

The Hammers face Watford next in a huge six-pointer which will likely cement the winner’s place in the Premier League for next season.

West Ham vs Villa last day showdown looks increasingly likely

A last day showdown with Aston Villa is looking increasingly likely for West Ham.

And some West Ham fans are calling for Villa star Grealish to be banned after his pathetic dive in Villa’s 2-0 win over Crystal Palace.

Grealish threw himself to the floor in dramatic fashion without being touched.

He was awarded a penalty which was then overturned by VAR.

The controversial VAR had already played a huge part in proceedings which worked against West Ham as it ruled out a perfectly good goal when Mamadou Sakho put Palace 1-0 up at Villa.

Villa were also lucky to get a point against Sheffield United in the first game back of the restart when goal line technology unprecedentedly failed to work, denying the Blades a clear winner.

Grealish labelled ’embarrassing’ and ‘pathetic’ after dive

Grealish’s dive was labelled ‘pathetic’ by pundits and fans. The midfielder defended his actions after the game.

But many West Ham fans – and supporters of lots of different clubs – have taken to social media to call for Grealish to be banned for what has been described as the ‘worst dive in football history’.

Many Hammers supporters cited the fact that their own midfield playmaker Manuel Lanzini remains the only player to be retrospectively banned for diving since rules were changed allowing the powers that be to do so. And that was more than two years ago.

Lanzini was given a two-game ban for ‘deceiving a referee’ when West Ham played Stoke.

And some West Ham fans are calling on the Premier League to take action against Grealish.

Here are a host of responses to the dive from Twitter.

West Ham fans join calls for Grealish to be banned

‘It’s not West Ham so he’ll get away with it’

Dozens of other fans from a host of different clubs also weighed in calling for Villa’s talisman to be banned.

If Grealish was to received the same retrospective punishment as Lanzini, he would miss Villa’s crucial games against Everton and Arsenal before they face West Ham on the last day of the season.

And it would undoubtedly be a huge blow to Villa’s survival hopes and a boost for West Ham.

Grealish was not booked for the dive so the authorities could take action.

It remains to be seen whether Grealish will be punished before Villa travel to Goodison Park this Thursday.
