There was a big dose of karma for Tottenham Hotspur’s Portuguese midfielder Gedson Fernandes this week after he snubbed West Ham United earlier this year.
David Moyes delivers transfer update, speaks out about West Ham’s small squad
West Ham were heavily linked with the young central midfielder in the January window. But at the 11th hour Fernandes joined West Ham’s bitter rivals Tottenham instead.
Hammers boss David Moyes had even admitted a deal deal was close for Fernandes (whufc.com).

Moyes thought he had Fernandes signed before late snub
The player had even sparked excitement by using a West Ham emoji in a social media post – but later deleted it.
Tottenham entered the race and duly sealed the signing. And nine months on West Ham are still short of central midfield options.
Fernandes snubbed West Ham for Spurs chiefly because Tottenham were playing in Europe and because compatriot Jose Mourinho was the manager.
But there was karma for the on loan Benfica talent this week when his fellow Portuguese omitted Fernandes from Tottenham’s Europa League squad (Sky Sports).

Ironic karma as midfielder is left out of the Spurs Europa squad
Fernandes was one of three players left out of Tottenham’s Europa League squad.
He has made just one appearance for Spurs this season, in the Carabao Cup.
As a result Fernandes will not be able to participate in the group stages and will have to wait until the January transfer window for the chance to be included if Spurs stay in the competition.
Fernandes must surely be regretting snubbing West Ham.

Gedson regret but making West Ham team would have been no easy task either
His move to Tottenham has not worked out and his lack of game time is striking.
He would undoubtedly have had more opportunities at the London Stadium.
But with West Ham’s vibrant young midfield of Declan Rice, Tomas Soucek, Pablo Fornals and Jarrod Bowen coming to the fore, getting in Moyes’s team would have been no easy task either.
The player has another year left to run on his loan at Tottenham.
