West Ham played a 4-4-2 system and picked up a win on the road on Saturday evening.
Manuel Pellegrini finally gave in to pressure from the fans and stuck two strikers on the field. Sebastien Haller and Michail Antonio caused problems all afternoon as West Ham took all three points.
Both players were heavily involved in the game’s only goal. Antonio showed pace, desire and skill to get to the by-line. His cut-back led to a ball into the box and Haller provided the finishing touch.
Antonio gets the best out of Haller
Haller has come in for some criticism this season. But it would be fair to say that the Frenchman has not been helped out by Pellegrini’s tactics. He could have done better but he has been isolated.
With Antonio back, West Ham had another outlet. Antonio ran tirelessly, allowing Haller to play his natural game without the sole burden on his back.
At Eintracht Frankfurt, Haller worked brilliantly alongside Luka Jovic. This is clearly the best system for him. Here are some smug fans reacting as Pellegrini finally listened.
