Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas has delivered a damning verdict on West Ham United under Manuel Pellegrini this season.
West Ham have made an inauspicious start to the new campaign.
A 5-0 drubbing at home to Manchester City was followed by a dismal display in a respectable 1-1 draw at Brighton.
Looking for the West Ham way
West Ham have looked neither solid defensively nor particularly creative in attack thus far.
And Nicholas has already seen enough to make a damning prediction about the Hammers this season.
The Sky Sports pundit says West Ham will lose 2-1 to Watford this weekend.
But more worrying is his verdict on the team’s attacking potency.
“West Ham started slow last season and they have been waiting for a few players to come back,” Nicholas told Sky Sports.
Nicholas makes worrying prediction about Hammers
“I thought they would have let Javier Hernandez go but they have kept him and I don’t see this being a high-scoring team.
“Felipe Anderson, Manuel Lanzini and Jack Wilshere have to do more. They need to get a few results to get going.”
Nicholas clearly does not feel the addition of new striker and record £45million signing Sebastien Haller and exciting Spain playmaker Pablo Fornals will lead to West Ham scoring more goals.
Haller and co can leave pundit with egg on his face
West Ham fans will be hoping the duo can get up to speed quickly and start finding their best form.
With the likes of Anderson, Lanzini, Andriy Yarmolenko and Michail Antonio all capable of weighing in with goals it could leave Nicholas with egg on his face come the end of the season.
What is more crucial for West Ham is to strike a balance between being solid and adding attacking verve.
