A few players have been left disappointed as West Ham named a 23-man squad to travel to China for the Asia Trophy. Manuel Pellegrini has decided on the three goalkeepers and 20 outfield players he wants with him in China.
There are a handful of thins to note from the squad. Firstly, there is just one senior striker (Javier Hernandez) as Jordan Hugill was left out. Secondly, some fringe players such as Ben Johnson, Josh Cullen and Grady Diangana have been given chances to impress.
But notably, there are a few other youngsters who have been left out. Nathan Holland, Reece Oxford and Marcus Browne are three examples of players who will be disappointed to miss out.
Oxford, who can play at centre-back or as a holding midfielder, would have hoped to show Pellegrini what he can do. The 20-year-old can fill two problem positions at West Ham and save the club millions in the transfer window if he proves he is good enough.
But Pellegrini has once again snubbed Oxford. The England U20 starlet, who spent last season on loan at Augsburg, has been with the squad in Switzerland. But he will not travel to China and here are some tweets from Hammers fans discussing this.
Would’ve loved to of seen Browne and Oxford
