West Ham are due to play Manchester City in the Asia Trophy on Wednesday. The Hammers are already out in Nanjing and have been training to adjust to their new surroundings.
Manuel Pellegrini has taken a 23-man squad to China for the pre-season tournament. But the opposition (and Pellegrini’s former team) are struggling to get out to China.
For the second time, Man City have had their flight cancelled, according to The Manchester Evening News. There has been an error with the paperwork and so Pep Guardiola’s men have not been able to travel out to China.
The Asia Trophy is a four-team tournament with Newcastle United and Wolverhampton Wanderers the other two invited sides. But without Man City, only three teams are due to compete for the cup.
West Ham’s route to the final is the trickiest but the slight advantage they have is their extra time in Nanjing. As Man City continue to be blocked from entering China, West Ham have extra time to prepare against the Premier League champions.
Here are some tweets from West Ham fans reacting after hearing that Man City’s players are still unable to fly out to China.
They could land an hour before kick off, go straight to the ground and still beat us. 😂

Even if they don’t turn up we’d only get a draw – it ‘the West Ham Way’!
