The 19-year-old joined the Hammers from Boavista in the summer of 2019 for around £2.6 million (Football.London).
The Portuguese youngster is still yet to make a senior appearance for West Ham. Cardoso has made 16 appearances for the club’s under-23’s, however. And he has really impressed, with one goal and two assists to his name (Transfermarkt).
Cardoso arrived at the London Stadium with high expectations. Manuel Pellegrini signed the young Portuguese ace for a bargain fee.
But for one reason or another, he hasn’t yet been given a chance with the senior side.
Football.London now claims that Cardoso has been training with the West Ham first-team, however.
Perhaps David Moyes is considering giving the teenager a chance. That would be a huge risk considering the Hammers’ precarious position in the Premier League table.
With project restart just around the corner, and West Ham due back in action on June 20th, Moyes will have some big decisions to make.
Angelo Ogbonna is struggling with an injury (Football.London). Meanwhile, Fabian Balbuena has been truly awful this season.
So if Moyes chooses to play three at the back against Wolves, including Cardoso in his starting line-up might not be the worst decision from the Scot.
The 19-year-old has a lot of talent. But jumping up to first-team Premier League football may be a big step up for the former Boavista ace.
There is only one way to find out, however.
