West Ham striker Sebastien Haller has been crowned as the Whoscored.com Premier League player of the week. The website uses statistical data to ascertain their champion and Haller came out on top.

The Frenchman scored twice in West Ham’s 3-1 win over Watford. It was Haller’s second game and his first goals since joining the Irons from Eintracht Frankfurt.

With a rating of 9.04, he beat Chelsea’s Emerson (8.69), Liverpool’s two-goal hero Mo Salah (8.62) and Manchester City pair David Silva (8.65) and Sergio Aguero (8.50). The 25-year-old already looks like a new hero in East London.

The exciting part is that Haller is only just getting started. By his own admission, he did not have a good game on Saturday. But if he doesn’t impress himself yet still ends up scoring twice, I don’t think many Hammers fans will be concerned.

Haller’s stats from Saturday indicate that he is being a bit harsh on himself. With seven aerial duels won, one successful dribble and three fouls drawn, Haller was a constant nuisance for the Watford defence.

His height and strength make him an asset in the air and he is comfortable with the ball at his feet. Also, he can read the game expertly. He has the presence of mind to get himself into the goalscoring positions for both of his goals. This could be the start of something special.
