West Ham United striker Sebastien Haller has appealed to the club’s fans to help him lift a trophy.
It may have been 40 years since West Ham last won a major honour but £45million record signing Haller is hoping to win one in his first season.
The striker has been nominated for goal of the season in tonight’s prestigious Willow Foundation London Football Awards.
Haller goal in running for award
Haller’s superb volley in the 4-0 win over Bournemouth on New Year’s Day – David Moyes’s first game in charge on his return to the club – is the strike in the running.
The West Ham striker has struggled in his debut season after a bright start.
Much of that has been down to West Ham using the Frenchman on his own up front.
As part of a two Haller comes alive as proved during the 3-1 win over Southampton last time out.
Win could work wonders for £45m striker’s confidence
With West Ham needing to win three or four of their last 10 games to survive, they need Haller on top form.
And winning the London goal of the season award could do his confidence the world of good.
The West Ham star is up against Tottenham’s Heung-Min Son vs Burnley, Crystal Palace’s Jordan Ayew vs West Ham, N’Golo Kante for Chelsea vs Liverpool and Sophie Ing’s striker for Chelsea vs Arsenal Women.
Ahead of the ceremony Haller and West Ham took to Twitter to urge fans to vote for his strike.
Haller asks Hammers fans for help
“Go vote for number 4,” Haller said with a crossed Hammers emoji.
Haller will be hoping to impress in London this weekend when he spearheads West Ham’s attack at Arsenal.
Ahead of the game West Ham hero Dean Ashton has compared Haller to himself (whufc.com).
A win for the Hammers at the Emirates could push Moyes’s side above Brighton and up to 15th.
If West Ham lose, depending on results elsewhere they could drop back into the relegation zone.
