According to a report from 90 Min, West Ham are one of seven Premier League clubs interested in signing Cruz Azul winger Orbelin Pineda in January.
Hammers boss David Moyes strengthened his options during the summer, bringing Vladimir Coufal, Craig Dawson and Said Benrahma to the London Stadium.
West Ham sold Grady Diangana and loaned out Felipe Anderson. But in truth, another winger is the last thing we need.
In spite of that, 90 Min claims that the Hammers could make a move to sign Cruz Azul winger Orbelin Pineda in January.
The 24-year-old joined Cruz Azul in January 2019 for around £10 million (90 Min). And he has proven to be a real hit with the Mexican outfit, racking up eight goals and seven assists in 68 games thus far (Transfermarkt).
The 21-capped Mexico international is a tricky winger who can play on either flank or even in a more central role.
Football scouting website Outside Of The Boot described the winger as ‘technically superb’. He also rejected a move to Manchester City in 2016 (90 Min).
Pineda’s current deal with Cruz Azul is set to expire in December 2021. So he might just be available for a reasonable fee in January.
It will be somewhat of a risk for West Ham to bring someone who is essentially an unproven commodity to the Premier League from Mexico.
But all transfers involve at least a little peril. And if Pineda is available for a bargain fee, he might just be worth the risk for West Ham. It must be said, however, that our priorities should lie elsewhere.
