Hammers boss David Moyes absolutely must strengthen his defensive ranks at the London Stadium this summer.
Angelo Ogbonna was incredible last season. But Issa Diop’s form is a real worry, Meanwhile, Fabian Balbuena has been heavily linked with an exit from West Ham (Football Insider).
Takvim claims that West Ham have identified Besiktas centre-back Domagoj Vida as a possible summer signing.
In fact, the Hammers are allegedly preparing a £4.5 million bid for the 81-capped Croatian international.
West Ham’s interest in Vida is nothing new. We were linked with a move for the 31-year-old a few months ago (Yeni Asir).
And in spite of his age, the Croatian wouldn’t be the worst addition to our side.
Stats
Vida is well-renowned for being a tenacious, tough-tackling defender.
In 31 league outings for Besiktas last season, the 31-year-old scored five goals. The 79-capped Croatia international averaged one tackle, 1.4 interceptions, 2.5 clearances and 0.6 blocks per game. He also won an average of two aerial duals per game. (Who Scored).
Vida has averaged 54.4 passes per game this season in the league, with an impressive completion rate of 90.6% (Who Scored).
Croatia manager Zlatko Dalic recently showered Vida with praise, as quoted by Spor Arena:
“I chose Vida as a captain in the match vs Jordan precisely because he is a warrior. Because he’s a very combative player. He invited me to the Besiktas match. I can adjust my schedule and will support him by coming to Besiktas to watch the match.”
He is clearly a top pro and wouldn’t let us down. £4.5 million for Vida would represent good value for West Ham.
Yes, he’s not an up and coming star with bags of potential. But his experience at the highest level should not be underestimated.
The Hammers could really do with a player like Vida at the moment.
