West Ham target Craig Dawson has been told he can leave Vicarage Road according to a report from the Hertfordshire Mercury.
In other news…Harry Redknapp delivers verdict on West Ham’s transfer business
Hammers boss David Moyes quite simply must bring an established centre-back to the London Stadium before next week’s transfer deadline.
The Scot tried and failed to do just that on Monday. And he now has just nine days left to sign a central defender from the Championship.
One of the names continually linked with a move to West Ham has been Craig Dawson.
Football Insider claimed on transfer deadline day that the Hammers were deep in talks to sign the 30-year-old Hornets defender.
And now the Evening Standard claims that David Moyes is prioritising a move to sign the veteran centre-back over all others.
That will certainly not excite the West Ham fans. In fact bringing Dawson to the London Stadium would be a totally underwhelming move.
Expectations well and truly lowered
But perhaps we just need to accept that there is a good chance we will be signing Dawson before next week’s deadline.
The Hertfordshire Mercury have now claimed that the 30-year-old has been told that he can leave Watford.
Stats
In 29 Premier League appearances last season, Dawson averaged one tackle, 1.2 interceptions, 3.8 clearances and 1.1 blocks per game. He also won an average of 3.5 aerial duals per match (Who Scored).
The 30-year-old is a decent defender. But we really should be setting our sights so much higher.
Considering how little defensive strength in depth we have at the moment, however, any new faces in through the door at West Ham will surely be a good thing.
