According to a report from Argentinian media outlet La Opinion, West Ham boss David Moyes is preparing a bid for Gonzalo Montiel.

The Hammers will undoubtedly be in the market for a new right-back this summer.

Ryan Fredericks has failed to impress since joining West Ham on a free transfer in the summer of 2018.

And with Jeremy Ngakia and Pablo Zabaleta having already left the London Stadium, Montiel would be a wise addition.

La Opinion claims that the Hammers are readying a $10 million (£7.8 million) bid for the 23-year-old South American. And it is suggested that the east London outfit could profit from River Plate’s financial woes, with the 36-time Primera Division winners having been hit hard by the global health crisis.

Good signing?

The Argentina international has racked up three assists in 19 league appearances for River this season (Transfermarkt).

In 19 league outings, the 23-year-old has won 1.5 aerial duals on average per game. He has also averaged two tackles, 1.2 interceptions and 1.3 clearances in those matches (Who Scored).

He is a tough tackling right-back and his playing style is quintessentially South American. That makes him ideally suited to the robust nature of the frenetically-paced Premier League.

And if David Moyes could bring Montiel to West Ham for just £7.8 million, it would be a real bargain for the east Londoners.
