According to a report from the Sun, West Ham have been scouting Gillingham centre-back Jack Tucker, along with Aston Villa, and they have been impressed with what they’ve seen thus far.
The Hammers desperately need to bolster their central defensive ranks. Winston Reid’s future is uncertain, Angelo Ogbonna will be 32 before the start of next season, and Fabian Balbuena has been in dreadful form this term.
West Ham have the fourth worst defensive record in the Premier League this season, with 45 goals conceded in 26 games so far.
So whoever is in charge of the Hammers in the summer will need to address that particular issue as a matter of urgency.
And the Sun reckons that Gillingham centre-back Jack Tucker could be an option for the east London outfit in the summer.
The 20-year-old has played 26 of the Gills’ 33 League One games this season, so he is a regular feature in Steve Evans’ side.
In those games, the side from Kent have let in just 22 games, and have only experienced defeat five times.
According to the Sun, Tucker is a classy centre-back. So by that we can assume that he is a ball-playing defender.
West Ham will allegedly have to battle Aston Villa for the youngster’s signature, however, so they will not have things all their own way in the summer.
