West Ham have had an approach for Lazio striker Felipe Caicedo rejected ahead of a potential summer move, according to a report from Italian media outlet Calcio Mercato.

David Moyes will want to bolster his attacking ranks in the summer.

Sebastien Haller and Albian Ajeti have both struggled to establish themselves in the Premier League so far. Although it’s fair to say that the latter hasn’t really been given ample opportunities to prove himself.

And the Hammers were allegedly keen to bring Lazio hitman Felipe Caicedo to the London Stadium, according to Calcio Mercato. But their advances have been rejected by the Serie A outfit.

Should West Ham be aiming higher?

The 31-year-old joined Lazio in the summer of 2017, and he has gone on to rack up 23 goals and 14 assists in 100 games for the Italian giants (Transfermarkt).

In 21 Serie A outings this season, Caicedo has averaged 1.2 shots, 0.3 dribbles and 0.6 key passes per game (Who Scored).

The 68-capped Ecuador international has previous experience of playing in the Premier League, having spent three-and-a-half years with Manchester City from 2008 to 2011.

The Lazio hitman is far from prolific, however, and considering the fact that he’s 31, West Ham surely should be aiming higher than the Ecuadorian.

Clearly, much will depend on what division the Hammers are actually playing in next season.

After yesterday’s win over Southampton, however, things are looking a lot brighter for West Ham. And if they do retain their Premier League status, players like Caicedo should not even be on their radar, as harsh as that might sound.
