According to a report from Tutto Mercato Web, West Ham and Watford are set for a head-to-head battle for Brescia goalkeeper Jesse Joronen this summer.

In other news…Insider claims he’s been told Moyes is desperate to make one specific signing this summer

Funds are tight at the London Stadium this summer.

David Moyes needs to be very careful how he spends the money he has at his disposal.

It is clear for everyone to see that West Ham need new defenders. The additions of a new left-back, right-back and centre-back will be of paramount importance to the Hammers as they head into the new season.

It could be argued that we need a new number one goalkeeper as well, considering Lukasz Fabianski’s shaky form post-lockdown. But let’s be honest here. Signing a stopper should be nowhere near the top of Moyes’s wish-list.

And in truth, that can wait for at least another year.

Nevertheless, TuttoMercatoWeb report that West Ham want to sign Brescia ace Jesse Joronen. And the east London outfit allegedly face competition from Watford for the 27-year-old’s signature.

If the Hammers are to strengthen in the goalkeeping department, however, we must bring in someone who is a clear upgrade on all of the current stoppers at the club.

And Joronen quite simply isn’t that.

Stats

Joronen conceded 59 goals in 29 Serie A games for Brescia last season, keeping just five clean sheets in the process (Transfermarkt).

In fact, his career record makes for pretty grim reading with 161 goals conceded in 232 games (Transfermarkt).

West Ham could and should be able to do a lot better than the Fin.

On top of that, signing a goalkeeper this summer should be the last of our worries.
