According to a report from the Daily Mail, West Ham could hold an advantage over Tottenham in the race to sign Callum Wilson, with the Hammers prepared to offer the Bournemouth hitman more regular first-team action.

If the 28-year-old joined Spurs, he would solely be seen as Harry Kane’s back-up. The same wouldn’t apply with the Hammers, however.

Wilson would provide genuine competition for Sebastien Haller, and perhaps he would help bring out the best in the Frenchman.

David Moyes will undoubtedly be keen to add another established striker to his ranks at the London Stadium this summer, having sold Albian Ajeti to Celtic.

And the same applies to Jose Mourinho at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Bournemouth hitman Wilson could be a very useful addition for either of the London clubs.

The Daily Mail reckon West Ham may have an advantage over Tottenham in the race for the Cherries striker, however.

Even so, there is still one very big problem – Bournemouth’s £30 million valuation of the 28-year-old (Daily Mail).

In the current financial climate, that is quite simply too much money for a player who has experienced such horrendous problems with injuries in recent years.

Since the start of the 2015/16 campaign, Wilson has missed 498 days of football through injury, with two of those spells on the sidelines being due to cruciate ligament ruptures (Transfermarkt).

It would be a different story if West Ham could pick him up for £10 million or so. Then it might be worth the risk.

So in spite of the fact that the Hammers allegedly hold an advantage over Spurs in the race to sign the 28-year-old, it will matter little unless the south coast outfit lower their demands.
