According to a report from the Sun, David Moyes is prepared to listen to offers for West Ham duo Manuel Lanzini and Fabian Balbuena this summer.
With the Hammers having almost certainly secured their Premier League survival this season, Moyes will be looking to freshen up his options at the London Stadium this summer.
Because of the financial impact of the global health crisis, however, the Scot will have to be thrifty in his player recruitment.
That could mean shifting on some of the deadwood before he brings anyone in.
And the Sun suggest that Manuel Lanzini and Fabian Balbuena are prime candidates for the chop.
Lanzini, 27, has been at West Ham since 2015. The Argentina international really impressed during the first few years of his career in east London. But he has been a shadow of his former self since suffering a serious injury in the summer of 2018.
Balbuena’s Hammers career, meanwhile, has taken a similar path. ‘The General’ was an instant hit at the London Stadium after joining in the summer of 2018. Much like Lanzini, however, his form has fallen off the face of a cliff this season.
If West Ham could recoup anything like the £6.5 million they paid for the 28-year-old Paraguayan (Sky Sports), they absolutely must move him on this summer.
And the same could be said for Lanzini. Once valued at £40 million (The Sun), the Hammers would be lucky to recoup half of that fee now.
If Moyes manages to get £20 million or more for the two players, it would be good business in the current market.
And it would help the Scot fund moves for younger, hungrier and more exciting players this summer.
