According to a report from Claret and Hugh, West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini never had any intentions of starting David Martin in the first-team when he signed him on a free transfer in the summer.

There have been calls from the Hammers fans for the 33-year-old Englishman to start for the Hammers ahead of Roberto against Spurs next weekend.

The Spaniard has been absolutely woeful in recent matches. And he has already cost West Ham on multiple occasions.

He is clearly not good enough for the Premier League. And now is surely the time when Martin is given his chance to shine.

Claret and Hugh claims that Pellegrini might just stick with Roberto instead of Martin for the clash with Spurs, however. The Chilean allegedly planned to use former Millwall man purely as a training ground goalkeeper when he signed him in the summer.

And the question has to be asked, if that was the case, why on earth did he sign him in the first place?

The are plenty of young goalkeepers at the club playing for the academy who could have done the same job.

And if Martin ever gets wind of the claim made by Claret and Hugh, it will be a real kick in teeth for him.
