The 19-year-old will be free to leave the Hammers at the end of this month, when his contract at the London Stadium expires.
That is surely not the outcome David Moyes wants. But he will be powerless to prevent it from happening.
Meanwhile, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp will undoubtedly be on the look-out for a new right-back this summer.
Nathaniel Clyne is set to leave Anfield on a free transfer.
And Jeremy Ngakia might just be the ideal signing for the Reds. The Hammers youngster would be able to provide adequate cover and competition for Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The 19-year-old was plying his trade with the club’s under-23’s earlier this season.
But he burst onto the scene in January, making his senior debut against champions elect Liverpool.
Stats
In four Premier League appearances for West Ham thus far, the teenager has racked up 12 tackles, six interceptions, 13 clearances and 13 ball recoveries (premierleague.com).
The 19-year-old has taken to top flight football like a duck to water. And he has been more than comfortable mixing it with seasoned pros.
Losing him for nothing will be an absolute disaster for the Hammers.
Read Liverpool do go on to claim that Ngakia is unlikely to join the Reds, however, due to the fact that he is after regular first-team action.
Perhaps West Ham do still have a chance of keeping the teenager. But they will certainly have to offer him more than the £5,000 per week (Daily Mail) that is currently on the table.
