According to a report from the Express, West Ham boss David Moyes is targeting a bold move for free agent Mario Gotze.

The Hammers manager desperately needs to bolster his ranks at the London Stadium this summer.
But strengthening his defence should be the priority.
Having said that, Gotze’s availability on a free transfer will undoubtedly prove to be appealing to West Ham considering their current financial problems.
Moyes could also do with adding another attacker to his ranks, having sold Jordan Hugill and Albian Ajeti already this summer.
Although the German World Cup winner is more comfortable when playing just behind the lead striker, he can also be deployed as an auxiliary centre-forward.
He was used in the role to great effect by Joachim Low for Germany for many years. And his career highlight came in the summer of 2014. He netted the winning goal in the World Cup final against Argentina when he was just 22.
And the Express reckon that Moyes wants to bring the 28-year-old free agent to West Ham this summer.
Stats
Gotze, who earned £170k-a-week at Borussia Dortmund (Silly Season), racked up three goals in 15 Bundesliga games last season (Who Scored).
In those outings he averaged 18.1 passes per game with a very impressive completion rate of 84.9% (Who Scored).
It wasn’t all great though. He averaged only 0.7 key passes and 0.5 shots per game (Who Scored).
It must be pointed out that only five of those 15 appearances were starts, however, and he played just 516 minutes in total.
Throughout the years, Gotze’s quality has been undeniable. It is true that he isn’t the same player he once was.
But who knows? Perhaps a change of scenery and a fresh start is just what the 28-year-old World Cup winner needs in order to spark his career back into life.
West Ham fans should not be turning their noses up at Gotze. Sure, we need defenders more than anything else at the moment.
But the German’s availability on a free transfer must not be ignored.
