Report claims West Ham want to sign Rangers hitman Alfredo Morelos

According to a report from the Sun, West Ham are interested in signing Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos this summer.

Hammers boss David Moyes will be keen to bolster his attacking ranks this summer. But he might find it hard to prise Morelos away from Ibrox, especially considering how highly Steven Gerrard rates the Colombian.

The Rangers boss described the 23-year-old hitman as ‘world-class’ recently (Daily Record).

Morelos might just be the kind of player Moyes needs at West Ham.

He needs to bring in more competition for Sebastien Haller, with Albian Ajeti clearly not being good enough to deputise for the Frenchman.

And the Sun claims that the Hammers are eyeing a swoop for the Rangers striker.

Morelos stats

The South American has a fantastic goalscoring record for Rangers since moving to Ibrox in the summer of 2017, with 77 goals in 137 games to his name (Transfermarkt).

And he has been on fire this season for Steven Gerrard’s side, with 29 goals in 46 outings for the Gers (Transfermarkt).

One bad side to Morelos’s game is his awful disciplinary record. He has received seven red cards during his time at Ibrox.

And that will be something that he absolutely must address, if he does indeed move to the Premier League.

West Ham would have to pay around £20 million for Morelos, according to the Daily Record. But that price must have come down recently due to the ongoing global health crisis and the obvious effect that it has had on the financial side of the game.

Would the 23-year-old be worth the risk for the Hammers? Probably.

There is nothing the West Ham fans like more than a supremely talented maverick after all.
