According to a report from Sky Sports, West Ham are interested in signing Brighton left-back Bernardo this summer. They could face competition from Newcastle and Basaksehir for his signature, however.
Hammers boss David Moyes desperately needs to bolster his defensive ranks at the London Stadium this summer.
Aaron Cresswell quite simply isn’t good enough to be playing regular Premier League football anymore. It is painfully obvious that we will have a lot of problems if the 30-year-old starts every game next season.
Hopefully Moyes is of the same viewpoint.
And judging by a report from Sky Sports, he very well could be. They claim that West Ham are after Brighton left-back Bernardo.
Brighton signed the 25-year-old from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2018 for around £9 million (BBC).
The Brazilian has played 43 games for the Seagulls. Last season he made 14 Premier League appearances.
In those outings, Bernardo averaged 1.9 tackles, 0.4 interceptions and 1.4 clearances per game (Who Scored).
He has been solid if not spectacular during his time in England. But the Brighton ace would undoubtedly be an upgrade on the hapless Cresswell.
Whether Brighton will be prepared to sell the 25-year-old this summer remains to be seen. The report from Sky Sports does stipulate that West Ham need to sell before they can even contemplate making a move for the South American left-back, however.
So it seems as though we could be set to miss out once again. And it really would be no surprise if Newcastle beat us to yet another player.
